Rainforest adventure walking trails and beach treks
of Karekare Auckland New Zealand
These nature walks cover hiking trails suitable for
most age groups and fitness levels. Duration is about one hour including
stops. Easy return to day car park at any stage of the trek.
 Union Bay
Watchman Saddle
> Union Bay > stream > Karekare Beach > dunes > pohutukawa glade > waterfall.
An amazing trail takes you through rainforest to a stunning vantage
point over, then down, to Union Bay, where Sir Edmund Hillary
(conqueror of Everest) was photographed for 'Vanity Fair' magazine.
The nature trail then crosses the stream to Karekare's famous
Piano surfer
beach returning via the dunes and glade to finish with the
easy
walk to the beautiful (Xena's)
waterfall and opal pools.
Union Bay & Karekare Beach looking south to Whatipu
Tasman lookout
Trek the trail over Watchman Saddle, don't descend to Union Bay
but hike uphill through rainforest to the north cliffs. Easy stages
and plenty of scenic rest stops making this walk enjoyable. The
view from the lookout over the Tasman Sea encompassing the sweep
of Union Bay, Karekare
Beach, and all the way to the south down Auckland's dramatic
west coast is unforgettable. The very best of walking
to Auckland
New Zealand scenic wonders!

collection and from the books 'Rolling Thunder' & 'Untamed Coast'.
